Environmental Projects

I get very excited about projects to "save" the environment even though it's never been my strongest interest or an area that I even feel that I know enough about. But when I hear of great projects as big as the Metrobus in Mexico City or the people noted in Good Magazine last issue that don't buy anything for a year, I get really excited and motivated. After reading the NY Times article today on global warming and China and the US, I got a bit depressed by the state of the world we are leaving for our children. The article says that if we were to turn off every power plant and car right now, the amount of carbon dioxide in the air would be extremely dangerous as determined by scientists by 2070. If we do nothing, we will reach that point by 2040. That's enough to get my bum moving.

We recently got recycling in our neighborhood. Because the area is privately owned and managed by a corporation, we were late on the list, especially when Rhode Island was the first state to have statewide recycling. But I am happy now, separating out my things and bringing them out to the common recycling area.

I am interested in other projects people have going and will try to bring those up as I find them. Or tell me yours!
